At the turn of the year, there are many good New Year's resolutions: more exercise, healthier eating, less alcohol, or quitting smoking. But usually, these good intentions are forgotten just a few days after New Year's Eve. We present six good resolutions for families that will relax your everyday life and have a lasting effect throughout 2020.
1. Good Resolutions for Families: Organization
Everyday life in families is often stressful. Besides work, school, and household chores, there is always something going on – sports and leisure appointments keep the calendar full. When everyone is stressed, arguments are inevitable. Our first good resolution for families: better organization. Because with less time pressure, everyday life is more relaxed. This works best with a large family planner where everyone enters their appointments. Prioritization is important, and when planning, enough buffer time should be considered. Especially with small children, this can create enough free space on difficult days. And if things really fall apart, parents should always have a backup option: appointments can also be postponed – as long as it’s done in time.
2. Involve Grandparents More – Everyone Benefits
Our second good resolution for families makes the family bigger and the stress smaller: grandparents are a great help when things don’t go as planned. Sick child but no more days off work? Or unexpected overtime? A nasty cold? It’s good to be able to use grandma and grandpa as an alternative. And for the kids, a close relationship with grandparents is important, as they greatly influence children’s development with their different life experience.
3. Family Bucket List: Plan Shared Experiences as a Good Resolution
Building a house, traveling the world, or planting a tree: that’s what a bucket list looks like for many. Some of these may also apply to families. But unlike material things, many parents put shared experiences with their children at the top of their wish list. So why not create a shared goals list for 2020? The big family vacation can be on it, as well as great outings or, for example, a big themed birthday party.

4. Family Time Is Quality Time – Our Resolution to Just Chill
The week is full of appointments and tasks, and the weekend brings household chores. It’s important to simply build in a few hours of rest where you have no plans. This quality time can then be used for shared activities – or just to “chill” for a while. Playing or crafting is, of course, also a very nice activity that creates positive family experiences.
5. Good Resolutions for Families: Tell Each Other How Much You Love Each Other
Of course, we love our children – and our children love us. But sometimes, in all the hustle and bustle, we forget the small gestures that make such loving relationships. That’s why our fourth good resolution for families is to say at least once a day how much you love each other. Of course, these words can also be supported by gestures. How about breakfast for mom on the weekend or a little chocolate in the lunchbox with a note that sweetens the school day?
6. Mindfulness: Why It’s Important to Take Care of Yourself
Our last good resolution for families for the new year is especially aimed at those who give their best every day in family life and somehow manage all the appointments, tasks, and problems of life. Treat yourselves to regular breaks and allow yourself some private time to recharge. Whether it’s a hot bath, a good book, or an evening with friends. Because only when your batteries are charged do you have enough energy for all the stressful tasks of everyday family life.
