Children's Pizza: Healthy Recipes
Pizza is one of the most popular favorite foods among children. However, the Italian specialty shouldn’t appear too often on the menu. After all, it is considered unhealthy and very high in calories. Think again! With our kids' pizza ideas, families can indulge without guilt.
The calorie traps mainly lie in the pizza crust, which is usually made from pure white flour. Then salami and plenty of cheese are added to the pizza. But there are also great alternatives to the traditional ingredients! In the following blog post, you will find recipes for:
- Quark oil dough for babies and toddlers
- Pizza dough made from grated potatoes

Kids' Pizza: Quark Oil Dough for Babies and Toddlers
Once the little ones are out of the pureed food phase, solid foods slowly make their way onto the plate. But be careful: these should initially have a soft consistency. Our kids' pizza made from a quark oil dough is perfect for babies and toddlers. But adults are also welcome to join in. Here’s everything you need for four mini pizzas:
- Spelt flour (5 tbsp)
- Low-fat quark (2 tbsp)
- Olive oil (2 tbsp)
- Baking powder (1/2 tsp)
- Tomato paste (1 tbsp)
- Grated mozzarella (2 tbsp)
- Oregano, basil
Here’s how to make it:
1. Before you start preparing the pizza dough, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat).
2. Then mix the olive oil with the quark. Next, add the flour and baking powder. Once all ingredients are in the bowl, knead the dough with your hands.
3. Next, shape small mini pizzas from the dough and place them on your baking tray. We also recommend using some baking paper.
4. On the tray, you can spread a little tomato paste on the kids' pizzas. For our version, sprinkle some grated mozzarella, oregano, and basil on top. Of course, you can choose any other toppings. Babies and toddlers also like the kids' pizza plain.
5. Now bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes and voilà! The delicious and, on top of that, healthy (!) kids' pizza is ready.
Healthy Recipes: Pizza Dough Made from Grated Potatoes
Potatoes don’t belong on pizza? Absolutely they do! At least they taste super delicious when processed into pizza dough. You can choose the topping as you like. How about a tasty Hawaiian potato pizza? Here’s everything you need for about four servings:
- Spelt flour (190 g)
- Potatoes (100 g)
- Yeast (10 g)
- Fresh pineapple (200 g)
- Grated Gouda (3 tbsp)
- Sugar (1/2 tsp)
- Milk (70 ml)
- Tomato paste
- Oregano
- Alternatively, some lean ham
Here’s how to make it:
1. First, peel and grate the potatoes. Then dissolve the yeast together with the sugar in some lukewarm milk and wait until everything is dissolved.
2. Next, put the flour together with the grated potatoes, the yeast mixture, and a pinch of salt into a bowl. Knead the dough well and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
3. Then roll out the potato dough on a baking sheet. Our tip: let the dough rest for another 10 minutes afterward. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with fan.
4. Now it’s time for the topping. Of course, you can vary the recipe as you like. For our kids' pizza recipe, first spread some tomato paste on the dough. Then add the pineapple slices and, optionally, some lean ham on the pizza base. We also recommend some Gouda and oregano for the kids' pizza.
5. Then bake the kids' pizza for about 25 minutes. And your lunch or dinner is ready.
Baking Pizza Like the Grown-Ups
Only grown-ups are allowed to bake pizza? Who says so? First, the little ones can help enthusiastically with topping and kneading. And second, they can bake their very own kids' pizza in the howa kids' kitchen. This version is made of wood but offers lots of play fun!
