World Children's Day
A public holiday in Thuringia on September 20, 2023

Although World Children's Day has existed for a long time, it is only a public holiday in Thuringia – and only since 2019. Not only children and youth but also employees get a day off on September 20th.
Furthermore, World Children's Day is celebrated in nearly 145 other countries worldwide to highlight the needs and rights of children. Political activities and protests are also typical for this day.
Knowledge
World Children's Day was established on September 21, 1954, at the 9th United Nations General Assembly. It aims, among other things, to draw attention to the rights of children, focus on their individual needs, and promote friendships among children and youth. It is observed on different days in UN member states, in Germany on September 20th. This day is also used to present demands for children to politicians.
These are the weekdays on which World Children's Day falls this year and in the coming years:
- September 2023: Wednesday
- September 2024: Friday
- September 2025: Saturday

World Children's Day has long been celebrated worldwide – its origins date back to the anniversary of the United Nations' adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
