World Play Day on May 28, 2024: "Discover Sustainability Through Play!"
German Children's Fund Calls on Municipalities, Clubs, Initiatives, and Educational Institutions to Participate
May 28 is World Play Day – every year. Of course, it should be – as on every other day of the year – play, play, and play even more. World Play Day is meant to remind us of this and is also a day of action that offers children nationwide both play activities and protest actions to meet children’s natural need for play – free play. For this purpose, the German Children’s Fund initiates nationwide, public, and free activities every year together with the alliance "Right to Play."
The motto of World Play Day on May 28, 2024 is: "Discover Sustainability Playfully!" With this, the children’s rights organization, together with its partners in the "Right to Play" alliance, wants to draw attention to the special importance of the topics of a healthy environment and sustainability.
Discover Sustainability Playfully – Games to Bring Children Closer to Environmental Protection
Everyone knows that learning through play is much easier and more effective, and the earlier, the better. This way, the topic is established from an early age and often becomes a matter of course. That is why it is so important to introduce the topics of environmental protection, climate change, and sustainability into play early on – in the truest sense of the word.
Especially in today’s throwaway society, it makes even more sense to bring these important topics closer to children. There are now many games, board games, and experiment kits on the topics of wind turbines, solar panels, and sustainability for children of different ages.
However, what is important is not only the playing itself but also the implementation of what is learned in the children’s everyday lives. Role modeling sustainability by parents, relatives, and the environment strengthens children in internalizing the topic.
