The holidays are over. Delicious food, numerous gifts, and wonderful hours spent with family are behind us. While we adults need some time to recover from the stressful holidays, the little ones still want to be kept busy. In the cold season, that’s not so easy. It’s cold and unpleasant outside, but inside it’s too boring. We have put together a few activity ideas for children during the wintertime. There’s definitely something for everyone here.

Out into the fresh air: Winter outing with children

What works in summer can also work in winter. Especially when children sit inside for too long, they get hyperactive. Outside in the fresh air, the kids can burn off excess energy. How about a winter walk in the forest, for example? This not only drives away boredom, but children also have plenty to discover. Perhaps there is a wildlife or animal park nearby. Additionally, children can have fun on the ice rink. Many institutions remain open during the cold season and offer activity ideas for children in winter. Parents should check opening hours in advance.

Create a cozy atmosphere for children

When it storms and snows outside, it’s all the cozier inside. Mom and Dad can maintain a cozy ambiance even after Christmas. The little ones will definitely like that and find it easier to relax. A few candles and string lights can stay up from the Christmas decorations. Children will also be happy if Mom and Dad continue to spend plenty of time with them after the holidays. A game night together or an exciting story in the evening are great activity ideas for children in winter.

In the winter bakery: Cookies & other treats

Why should cookies only be allowed at Christmas? Baking is always fun! Especially in winter, when the delicious aroma fills the house. Alternatively, parents can also bake cakes or other treats. The little ones can take on small tasks, such as stirring the dough, gathering ingredients, or decorating the finished masterpiece. Of course, it doesn’t always have to be sweets. Mom and Dad can also introduce the ritual of preparing dinner together with the kids. Here too, children can work in the kitchen and be very proud of the result.

Winter craft idea

Crafting is always possible – especially in winter. How about creating your own starry sky for the children’s room? Colorful 3D stars can be easily attached above the child’s bed and invite them to dream in the evening.

All you need for this:

  • Colored paper/metal foil
  • Glass/cup (depending on desired star size)
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Waterproof marker
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • All-purpose glue

How to do it:

  1. Place the glass on the paper or metal foil and trace around it with the ballpoint pen. Repeat this step once more.
  2. Then cut out the two circles you created.
  3. Next, fold each circle in half three times so that a triangle is formed.
  4. Now take the waterproof marker and mark the bottom two corners of the triangle so that it becomes a diamond shape. Use the triangle’s axis of symmetry as a guide. Then cut off the two opposite corners to create a diamond.
  5. Repeat the same with the other circle.
  6. Then open both halves. Voila! You now have two star halves. Cut each star once to the middle and glue the overlapping sides together to create a kind of 3D effect.
  7. In the next crafting step, gently bend all the star points outward so you can glue the star together. Don’t forget to attach the hanging thread beforehand. Now your 3D star is finished.

The childhood classic: Play shop

On Christmas Eve, the play shop is set up – a particularly lovely tradition for children that continues to bring lots of fun even after the holidays. The little ones can wonderfully immerse themselves in role play while Mom and Dad make the necessary preparations. The family business howa offers various play shop models in their range.
